Milan have reached an agreement to loan Switzerland international Zachary Athekame to Olympique Lyonnais, according to French reports. The forward will join the Ligue 1 side on a straight loan arrangement that contains no option to buy.
French transfer specialist Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport reports that Lyon will cover Athekame’s full salary during the campaign. The player is scheduled to return to San Siro in the summer of 2027, rejoining the Rossoneri squad after a year in France.
Dry Loan Structure
The arrangement represents a straightforward temporary exit for a player who arrived at Milan only a year ago. The Rossoneri signed Athekame from Swiss side Young Boys for €10 million plus performance-related add-ons in 2024, securing his services on a contract that runs until June 2030.

During his solitary season in Italy, Athekame made 29 competitive appearances across all competitions. He contributed two goals, scoring against Pisa and Genoa in domestic cup competitions, and registered two assists for teammates. However, he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in Serie A, prompting the club to seek alternative arrangements.
The switch to Lyon offers Athekame the opportunity to secure regular first-team football in one of Europe’s major leagues.
