AC Milan have rejected interest from Major League Soccer outfit New York City FC in United States international Christian Pulisic, with the Serie A giants insisting the 27-year-old winger is not for sale this summer. Instead, the club intend to secure the American’s immediate future by activating a contract extension clause that binds him to San Siro until 2028.
According to The Athletic journalist Tom Bogert, NYCFC explored what would have been an “expensive” deal to tempt Pulisic back to the American market. However, Milan have made their position unequivocal amid a period of significant transition that has seen new directors installed and a change in head coach. Bogert told CBS Sports: “Milan are in a transitional period, with a new head coach and entirely new directors. They say Christian Pulisic is not for sale.”
Contract situation and extension plans
Technically, Pulisic has only one year remaining on his current agreement. He initially joined Milan from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for a fee of €20 million, seeking to revive his career after a difficult spell in English football. The move has proven successful; the USMNT captain has since established himself as a key figure, contributing 42 goals in 134 appearances across all competitions for the Rossoneri.
To protect their investment, Milan plan to trigger an option that automatically extends his existing terms until 2028. The club are also engaged in active negotiations with Pulisic’s representatives regarding a new, longer-term contract that would commit him to the Italian outfit beyond that date, though sources indicate no agreement has yet been finalised.
The refusal to entertain NYCFC’s approach underscores Milan’s determination to retain their attacking talisman despite the ongoing restructuring behind the scenes. With a new leadership team viewing Pulisic as central to their rebuilding project, further talks over improved terms are anticipated in the coming weeks as the club look to secure the forward’s long-term future.
