Napoli are preparing to offer Scott McTominay a new contract running until 2030, a deal that would place the Scotland international among the highest earners at the Serie A club.

Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has tasked sporting director Giovanni Manna with opening formal negotiations over the extension, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The midfielder’s current agreement is scheduled to expire in 2028, and the proposed renewal would add two further years to his stay at the Stadio Maradona.

Allegri views midfielder as “cornerstone”

The move reflects new head coach Massimiliano Allegri’s determination to build his team around the former Manchester United player. Allegri reportedly sees the 28-year-old as a “cornerstone” of his project, ensuring continuity following the managerial transition from Antonio Conte.

McTominay established himself as a key performer during Conte’s two-year reign, consistently delivering influential displays in midfield. Napoli’s faith in the Scotland international has remained steadfast despite his disappointing World Cup campaign, with the club prioritising his domestic contributions over recent international struggles.

Player open to extended stay

The financial package under discussion would elevate McTominay into Napoli’s top salary bracket, rewarding his impact since arriving from Old Trafford. Sources indicate that the player is content with life in Naples and willing to prolong his commitment beyond the existing terms.

If finalised, the agreement would secure McTominay’s services for an additional two years beyond his current deal, representing a significant long-term investment by De Laurentiis. The negotiations signal Napoli’s intent to maintain squad stability as they prepare for the new season under Allegri’s leadership.
