Zambian international Patson Daka opened his account for Hamburg with a debut goal in a 3-1 pre-season victory over Heidenheim in Austria.
The former Leicester City striker found the net during the friendly fixture held at a training centre in Tyrol, where HSV have based themselves since the start of the week. His strike helped the Bundesliga side maintain momentum in their summer preparations.
Hamburg established their advantage through goals at either side of the interval. Albert Grønbæk broke the deadlock before half-time, with Rayan Philippe doubling the lead shortly after the restart. Daka then added his name to the scoresheet, ensuring a comfortable cushion for the Rothosen.
Heidenheim managed a consolation goal through Oualid Mhamdi. The 23-year-old Moroccan recently joined the relegated side from SC Verl following a breakthrough campaign in the 3. Liga, and his finish provided brief hope of a recovery that ultimately failed to materialise.
The fixture also offered valuable minutes to several other summer arrivals at Hamburg. Martin Adeline and Bilal Nadir both featured as manager Steffen Baumgart continues to integrate his new recruits ahead of the competitive season.
Hamburg will remain in Austria for one further fixture before returning home. They are scheduled to face Premier League outfit Everton on 1 August, providing a significant test of their preparations.
Heidenheim, meanwhile, will conclude their pre-season programme ahead of their return to the second tier. The club begins its 2. Bundesliga campaign on 8 August with a home fixture against newly-promoted Osnabruck, looking to secure an immediate return to the top flight following last term’s relegation.
