Quinten Timber has decided on a switch to Crystal Palace, though the Premier League club must still finalise terms with Olympique de Marseille to complete the transfer.
According to Foot Mercato, the Dutch midfielder has given his approval to the move to Selhurst Park. However, Crystal Palace are yet to strike an agreement with the Ligue 1 side, who are under pressure to sell before the transfer window closes.
Marseille forced to cash in
Marseille’s precarious financial position means they must offload players this summer, despite manager Bruno Genesio’s wish to retain Timber. The French club have operated under sales pressure throughout the window, and with deadlines looming, they are now sanctioning departures for key assets.
Timber only arrived at the Stade Vélodrome in January but performed strongly during the second half of last season, increasing his value. Genesio viewed the Netherlands international as an important squad member, yet the club’s economic reality leaves him unable to prevent the sale.
Palace push for late deal
The midfielder is the brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber, and his arrival would add quality to a Crystal Palace side looking to strengthen their engine room. Palace are not the only club benefiting from Marseille’s need to sell; striker Igor Paixão is also reportedly in advanced talks with Sunderland.
While Timber has settled on his destination, the transfer remains incomplete. Crystal Palace must now negotiate a fee that satisfies Marseille’s financial demands to secure the signing before the window shuts.
