PULSER FOOTBALL NEWS

RC Lens has taken the significant step of banning its supporters from travelling to the upcoming derby against rivals LOSC Lille. The decision by the club follows a series of concerning incidents, most notably during their recent Champions League away match at Club Brugge.

During the fixture in Belgium, numerous smoke flares were reportedly set off by Lens supporters. Some of these flares were thrown onto the pitch, while others were directed towards a stand occupied by Belgian supporters, including those with reduced mobility. This behaviour has prompted the club to act decisively ahead of the highly anticipated derby.

Pattern of Incidents and Potential Sanctions

The incidents at Club Brugge are not isolated. RC Lens had already faced sanctions following an away trip to Prague in September. Furthermore, just ten days prior to the Brugge match, several dozen smoke bombs were deployed during an away game at Troyes, causing the match to be temporarily halted.

Given this pattern of behaviour, RC Lens is now expected to face further significant sanctions from UEFA. The European football governing body is likely to review the repeated occurrences of dangerous conduct by sections of the club’s fanbase.

Club Response and Dialogue

In response to the escalating situation and the ban for the Lille derby, representatives from various Lens supporters’ groups are scheduled to meet with the club’s management. This meeting aims to address the repeated and dangerous actions of some members, which have led to the current disciplinary measures and potential future penalties.
