RC Strasbourg Alsace have identified Stade Rennais midfielder Djaoui Cissé as a potential target as they look to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes. However, the Ligue 1 rivals have not yet entered into negotiations for the 22-year-old France youth international.
Strasbourg rebuild midfield
The Alsace club are actively seeking additions in the centre of the pitch following a busy summer of outgoings. Valentin Barco departed for Chelsea earlier in the window, depleting their options. Additionally, Rabby Nzingoula and Junior Mwanga, who provided valuable depth in midfield, have both left on permanent deals.
This exodus has left the club short of cover in the engine room. Cissé has emerged as a candidate to fill the void, though Rennes are yet to receive a formal approach.
Uncertain future at Roazhon Park
Cissé initially broke through during the second half of the 2024/25 season, establishing himself as a prospect to watch. However, he struggled to build on that momentum last term. Under Habib Beye and subsequently Franck Haise, the Frenchman found first-team opportunities difficult to come by.
He has not featured in pre-season fixtures and now looks likely to depart Roazhon Park. Cissé is one of several Rennes players who could leave before the deadline, with Breel Embolo, Jordan James and Lilian Brassier also facing uncertain futures.
What happens next
Despite their interest, Strasbourg have yet to contact their Breton counterparts regarding a transfer. With time running out in the window, the club must move swiftly if they wish to secure the midfielder’s signature.
