Advanced Talks with Knutsen
RC Strasbourg Alsace have entered advanced negotiations with FK Bodø/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen as they seek to resolve their managerial vacancy. The Ligue 1 side are working to appoint a successor to Gary O’Neil before the first-team squad reports for pre-season training on 8 July.
The 57-year-old Norwegian has emerged as a leading contender after initial reports suggested former Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford boss Thomas Frank was the priority target. However, fresh reports indicate the Dane may not be seeking an immediate return to the dugout, prompting the Alsace club to accelerate discussions with Knutsen.
Managerial Instability
The vacancy arose when O’Neil departed for Ipswich Town last month, ending a brief five-month tenure at the Stade de la Meinau. He had only taken charge in January following the departure of Liam Rosenior.
This upcoming appointment will mark the club’s third managerial change of 2026, creating significant disruption during a crucial summer window. The board are keen to secure stability before competitive preparations intensify.
European Pedigree
Knutsen has built a strong reputation through his achievements with Bodø/Glimt. He guided the Norwegian side deep into the 2025 UEFA Europa League, where they were eventually eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur. His team also earned plaudits for their performances in the Champions League last season.
Wilfried Nancy, who recently left Celtic, remains under consideration as an alternative should talks with Knutsen collapse. Earlier reports suggested Nancy was viewed as the club’s Plan B behind Frank, who reportedly sought substantial control over player recruitment and the appointment of numerous assistants.
Race Against Time
With the July 8th deadline approaching rapidly, Strasbourg face pressure to finalise their choice. The new manager will inherit a squad requiring swift assessment before the upcoming campaign, with minimal time to implement tactical changes or evaluate transfer needs.
