FC Schalke 04 have announced the signing of Germany international Robin Gosens from Fiorentina. The 32-year-old arrives at the Veltins-Arena on an initial loan agreement that includes clauses for a permanent transfer.
The experienced left-sided player, who has earned 24 caps for the German national team, will wear the number 8 shirt for the Bundesliga club. Gosens returns to German football following a spell with Union Berlin between 2023 and 2025, having previously built his reputation in Serie A with Atalanta, Inter Milan and Fiorentina.
Club Praise Leadership Qualities
Youri Mulder, Schalke’s Director of Professional Football, highlighted Gosens’ leadership attributes and winning mentality when confirming the move. “We are very happy that Robin Gosens has chosen to join us. We are getting a player of immense quality and a true leader for our team,” Mulder stated. “In recent years, Robin has demonstrated commitment, mentality, and an unwavering will to succeed at his clubs and with the national team.”
Mulder emphasised how Gosens’ career trajectory serves as an inspiration, describing him as having risen “from underrated talent to key player on the international stage.” He added that these qualities make the defender “a role model who, in our opinion, is a perfect fit for Schalke 04 and our fans.”
The director also pointed to the player’s on-pitch contributions, noting: “On the pitch, he brings passion, a goal threat, and tremendous stamina. These are qualities we need for our style of play in the Bundesliga.”
Gosens Ready for Responsibility
The 32-year-old expressed his motivation for joining the Gelsenkirchen club, revealing that the detailed planning from management convinced him to make the switch. “Schalke 04 and its management made a real effort to sign me. They outlined their plan and explained exactly what my role would be and what they expect from me. That was absolutely convincing,” Gosens said.
He outlined his personal ambitions for the campaign ahead, stating: “I’m really up for it. I want to lead by example and take on responsibility. Everyone knows I have a special connection to Schalke. I’m really excited about this challenge and I’m looking forward to giving my all on the pitch with the guys.”
The loan arrangement offers Schalke additional top-flight experience as they prepare for the new Bundesliga season, with the option to secure Gosens’ services permanently should the partnership prove successful.
