Sadibou Sané has completed his transfer to AS Monaco from FC Metz, signing a five-year contract that will keep him at the Principality club until the summer of 2031. The 22-year-old defender becomes the latest arrival as Monaco rebuild their squad following a quiet season by their standards.

The Senegalese centre-back joined Metz from Dakar-based academy Génération Foot in 2023 and established himself as a regular starter, making 71 appearances across all competitions for Les Grenats. He featured 24 times during the recent campaign, which ended in relegation to Ligue 2 for the northeastern club.

Monaco accelerate summer business

Sané’s arrival marks the fourth confirmed signing of July for the Monegasque outfit. Monaco have already secured left-back Nazinho from Belgian side Cercle Brugge on a permanent transfer valued at €5 million, whilst midfielder Mathys Detourbet has joined on loan from Manchester City. The club also finalised the signing of defender Luis Filipe earlier in the week.

The defensive reinforcements address key areas as Monaco look to strengthen their backline options. Sané’s experience in French football, despite his age, offers manager Adi Hütter additional depth following the departure of several squad members at the end of last season.

What happens next

The centre-back will join his new teammates for pre-season preparations as Monaco target a return to European competition. Having dropped out of continental qualification places last term, the club are investing heavily to ensure a more competitive showing in the upcoming Ligue 1 campaign.

Sané’s move represents a significant step up in his career trajectory, swapping second-tier football for a club with established Champions League pedigree. His adaptation to the demands of top-flight football in Monte Carlo will be closely monitored during the opening months of the season.
