AS Saint-Étienne are reportedly closing in on the signing of Danish Under-21 international Jakob Breum from Go Ahead Eagles. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is expected to undergo a medical examination shortly before finalising his switch to the French club.
According to reports, an agreement is believed to have been reached between the various parties involved in the negotiations. Breum is set to sign a four-year contract running until 2030, with an option for an additional year also said to be included in the deal.
Consistency in the Eredivisie
Breum arrives in France following a standout campaign in the Netherlands. The Denmark youth international, who has earned six caps at Under-21 level, developed through the Odense BK academy before establishing himself as a key figure at Go Ahead Eagles.
During the 2025-26 season, he demonstrated remarkable consistency, starting 32 of his 37 appearances across all competitions. Breum contributed six goals and seven assists, proving decisive on thirteen separate occasions throughout the campaign.
His performances helped secure European qualification for the Dutch side, offering the midfielder his first experience of continental football. In the Europa League, Breum faced French opposition twice, featuring in a 3-1 defeat away to OGC Nice and a narrow 2-1 loss to Olympique Lyonnais. The latter fixture carries particular significance given Lyon’s status as Saint-Étienne’s fierce rivals.
Career progression
The move represents a significant step forward for the young Dane, offering him the opportunity to test himself in one of Europe’s major leagues. Saint-Étienne will hope that Breum’s creativity and attacking output translate effectively from the Eredivisie to the French top flight.
Once the medical examination is successfully completed and the four-year contract is formally signed, the transfer will mark Breum’s first venture outside of Danish and Dutch football.
