FC Schalke 04‘s supervisory board has unanimously extended the contract of CEO Matthias Tillmann, confirming their commitment to the club’s current leadership and strategic direction.
Tillmann, who serves as the Chief Executive Officer, has seen his tenure marked by efforts to bring stability and implement a long-term strategy for the Gelsenkirchen-based club. This unanimous decision by the supervisory board underscores confidence in his ongoing work.

During his time at the helm, Tillmann’s initial focus was on addressing immediate issues and stabilising the club’s operations. Subsequently, the emphasis shifted towards developing and executing a clear long-term strategy for Schalke 04.
Under his leadership, the club has undertaken significant projects, including a comprehensive overhaul of its commercial setup. This has involved efforts to expand and strengthen existing partnerships and deals, aiming to bolster the club’s financial foundations.

“I am convinced that FC Schalke 04, with its size, infrastructure, and power, belongs in the Bundesliga,” Tillmann stated in an interview following his extension. He further added, “We’ve been carrying a heavy burden, especially financially, and we continue to face challenges that we must overcome.”
Tillmann expressed confidence that diligent work will ultimately yield success, viewing it as “only a matter of time.” His overarching ambition for the club is to “make Schalke a little better every day,” reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement.
