Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry has taken a significant step forward in his rehabilitation by returning to ball work following a thigh injury that has sidelined him since mid-April.
The Germany international completed an individual training session on Tuesday afternoon at the club’s Säbener Straße base. After initial running and mobility drills, the attacker progressed to technical exercises with the ball under the close supervision of fitness and rehab coach Simon Martinello, indicating his recovery has entered a more advanced phase.
Gnabry has been out of action for more than two months after sustaining the thigh problem in mid-April. The injury proved particularly damaging to his international ambitions, forcing him to miss not only the final weeks of Bayern’s Bundesliga title-winning campaign but also the World Cup with Germany.
The winger’s absence was notable during the closing stages of the domestic season, depriving the squad of an experienced attacking option for the run-in. Prior to the setback, Gnabry had been a regular fixture in Bayern’s forward line, offering pace and creativity from wide positions.
Tuesday’s session represents a positive development in his recovery programme, marking the transition from basic fitness work to football-specific activity. While individual training with the ball indicates progress, the attacker remains some distance from full team integration as he continues to rebuild match fitness and sharpness.
Gnabry was not the only player undertaking rehabilitation work at Bayern’s training facility on Tuesday. Youngster David Santos Daiber also trained individually as he continues his own recovery from a thigh problem.
The 19-year-old is following a similar rehabilitation path to the senior international, with both players monitored closely by Martinello and the medical department. The simultaneous recovery of both attackers highlights the muscle issues that have affected Bayern’s wide options during the closing months of the campaign.
Bayern will be monitoring Gnabry’s progress carefully as they look to reintegrate the experienced Germany international into their squad. His return to full training will be welcomed by the coaching staff, though the club will likely manage his workload cautiously to avoid any recurrence of the complaint.
