Rayo Vallecano secured a narrow advantage over RC Strasbourg in the first leg of their European semi-final clash at Vallecas. The Spanish side claimed a 1-0 victory on Thursday night thanks to a second-half header from Alemao. However, the slender margin leaves the tie delicately poised ahead of next week’s return match in France.

The atmosphere inside the stadium resembled a street festival. Local supporters filled the stands with noise long before kick-off. When the match began, it was the French visitors who settled faster. Strasbourg moved the ball with confidence during the opening exchanges. Attacker Julio Enciso found pockets of space between Rayo’s midfield and defence. He looked dangerous with every touch. Yet defender Florian Lejeune made several vital tackles to stop the threats.
