FC Barcelona are holding talks with local authorities about renting the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys for most of the 2027-28 season. The Catalan giants only returned to Spotify Camp Nou last November following extensive rebuilding work. Now they face the prospect of leaving their home ground once again.

Builders are currently working on the third tier of the stadium. The club hopes to increase the capacity to 105,000 supporters for the 2026-27 season. However, the installation of a new roof the following year will make the ground unavailable.

According to Cadena SER, club officials want to secure the Olympic Stadium until January or February 2028. The proposal includes moving several matches to away venues at the end of the 2026-27 season and the beginning of the 2027-28 term. This strategy would reduce disruption to the team’s fixture list while builders complete the roof.

This structure represents the final major element of the renovation project. Yet the work has already fallen behind schedule. Officials originally promised the job would finish within three years. Now the total duration looks set to reach four and a half years. The return to Camp Nou was delayed by twelve months, and doubts remain about whether the club can meet the new deadlines for the third tier completion.
