Atlético Madrid continued their strong run in La Liga, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Deportivo La Coruña at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. The decisive moment came three minutes after the restart when Julián Álvarez found the back of the net in the 48th minute, assisted by Álex Grimaldo.

The match saw Atlético Madrid’s goalkeeper, Oblak, play a crucial role, making five saves to deny Deportivo La Coruña, who managed five shots on target from their 15 attempts. Despite having less possession, Deportivo created several dangerous opportunities, highlighting Oblak’s importance in securing the clean sheet.

League Standings and Form

The win sees Atlético Madrid solidify their position in second place in La Liga, accumulating 25 points. They currently sit two points behind leaders Barcelona, who have played one fewer game, and four points clear of third-placed Real Madrid. This victory marks Atlético’s fifth consecutive win in the league, extending their unbeaten streak across all competitions to six matches, with their only recent dropped points coming from a 1-1 draw against VfB Stuttgart.

For Deportivo La Coruña, the result leaves them in 10th position with 11 points. Antonio Hidalgo’s side is now on a six-match winless run across all competitions, a sequence that includes defeats to Real Sociedad and FC Porto. Their struggle for form will be a concern as they look ahead to upcoming fixtures.

Upcoming Fixtures

Deportivo La Coruña will next turn their attention to the Copa del Rey, with an away fixture against Auriense scheduled for Thursday, 29th October. Atlético Madrid, meanwhile, will return to La Liga action on Saturday, 31st October, when they travel to face Levante.

Historically, this fixture has often gone Atlético’s way with a similar scoreline. This latest result marks the fourth consecutive time Atlético Madrid has beaten Deportivo La Coruña by a 1-0 margin, a trend that includes a Copa del Rey tie earlier in the year.
