Italian club Napoli must wait longer to sell Jens Cajuste. Top transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano says Ipswich Town’s promotion to the Premier League does not force the English side to buy the midfielder.

Many people thought a €7.5m clause would become mandatory if Ipswich went up. However, Romano confirms this is not true. The Championship club only has an option to sign Cajuste. They do not have an obligation.

Cajuste moved to Ipswich on loan last summer. The Swedish player has played 31 games in all competitions. He scored one goal and made four assists during the promotion push.

Napoli paid €11.5m to sign the 25-year-old from French club Stade de Reims in 2023. But he never settled in Italy. He has spent this season on loan at Portman Road.

The Italian side has already earned about €2.7m in loan fees. They hoped to receive the full €7.5m transfer fee this summer. Now they must wait for Ipswich to decide.
