Real Sociedad defender Jon Martin has ended speculation about his future. The 20-year-old centre-back says he wants to stay at the Basque club despite strong interest from Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Reports first emerged in March that Real Madrid scouts were watching the Spain Under-21 international. Last month, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco reportedly met with Martin’s representatives to discuss the player’s contract situation. Martin signed a new deal in October that runs until 2031. The agreement includes a €50 million release clause.

In an interview with Diario AS, Martin made his position clear. He said he feels at home at Real Sociedad. “I want to remain here for as long as possible,” he stated. “This club has given me everything. I am happy and calm here. My goal is to stay for many years and win more trophies like the Copa del Rey.”

The young defender admitted he knows about the transfer rumours. He said friends and social media keep him informed. However, he insisted these reports do not distract him. “People talk about it constantly, so you cannot avoid hearing it,” he explained. “But my focus is only on Real Sociedad. Fans can relax. I am not thinking about leaving.”

Martin has become a crucial player for Real Sociedad this campaign. He has made 28 appearances across all competitions, starting 27 matches. He has also scored one goal. His performances helped the team lift the Copa del Rey trophy last month.
