Offside Rule Explained for World Cup

A player is in an offside position if they are nearer to the opponent’s goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent when a teammate plays the ball to them. However, being in this position is only an offense if the player becomes actively involved in play. Exceptions include receiving the ball directly from a goal kick, corner kick, or throw-in.
