SuperSport has announced its full list of television presenters for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The South African broadcaster will show all 104 matches of the tournament. However, the company has not included any football experts from Uganda in its plans.

The media group selected many famous former players to work as analysts. John Terry will lead the discussions. He captained Chelsea to five Premier League titles and the Champions League trophy in 2012. Bacary Sagna will also join the team. The French defender previously played for Arsenal and Manchester City. He represented France at two World Cup finals.

Roberto Di Matteo will share his thoughts too. He won the Champions League with Chelsea as both a player and a manager. The panel also includes strong African representation. Asamoah Gyan of Ghana holds the record for most goals scored by an African player at the World Cup. He will offer his experience from the 2010 tournament where Ghana reached the quarterfinals.

Salomon Kalou from Ivory Coast will provide analysis. He has won both the Africa Cup of Nations and the Champions League. William Troost-Ekong, the Nigerian defender who won the best player award at the 2023 AFCON, is also on the team. Siphiwe Tshabalala of South Africa joins them. People remember him for scoring the first goal of the 2010 World Cup.

The broadcaster has also chosen several local South African experts. Bongani Khumalo, who captained Bafana Bafana, will explain defensive tactics. Teko Modise will discuss midfield play. Amanda Dlamini, a star from the women’s national team Banyana Banyana, will also feature. Other names include Phumudzo Manenzhe, Stanton Fredericks, Shaun Bartlett, Jimmy Tau and Simphiwe Dludlu.

Notably absent is Denis Onyango. The Uganda Cranes goalkeeper has played in South Africa since 2006. He has won twelve league titles and two CAF Champions League medals with Mamelodi Sundowns. He knows the South African national team very well. Eight of the current Bafana Bafana players are his teammates at Sundowns.

On the opening day of the competition, Mexico defeated South Africa by two goals to nil. Terry, Akpei, Modise and Dludlu provided coverage of this match. Terry expressed disappointment with the tactical approach of South Africa’s coach, Hugo Broos.

Manchester City have secured the long-term future of rising star Divine Mukasa. The highly-rated teenager has put pen to paper on a fresh deal that binds him to the Premier League champions until the summer of 2030.

The 18-year-old playmaker joined the Etihad Stadium outfit from West Ham United during the autumn of 2023. Since his arrival, he has rapidly climbed through the ranks, playing a crucial part in the club’s youth successes.

Last term, Mukasa helped City’s Under-18 side capture the Premier League North championship and the FA Youth Cup. He registered an outstanding 42 goal contributions across 41 matches at academy level.

His excellent form earned him a place in Pep Guardiola’s senior setup. The London-born talent made six first-team outings and provided an assist for Phil Foden on his senior bow against Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup.

Seeking regular match practice, the midfielder spent the closing months of the previous campaign on loan at Leicester City. Unfortunately, the East Midlands club suffered relegation to League One despite his efforts.

Mukasa possesses dual heritage through his Ugandan father and Lithuanian mother. Although he has featured for England’s youth teams, he remains eligible to switch allegiance to the Uganda Cranes for senior international football.

Speaking about his contract extension, the youngster expressed delight. He stated that he has learned enormously from teammates and coaches since arriving from East London. He believes these experiences have improved him both on and off the pitch.

Mukasa added that his brief taste of senior football has only increased his hunger to compete at the top level. He hopes to use the world-class facilities at City to continue his development.

His progress offers hope to young footballers in Uganda and the diaspora community, showing that pathways exist to reach the highest echelons of the sport.

Mamelodi Sundowns skipper Themba Zwane has revealed that veteran shot-stopper Denis Onyango remains the true leader behind the club’s long period of dominance. Speaking on the Pitchside podcast, Zwane explained that he still consults the Uganda international before making important decisions, despite Onyango now playing a reduced role on the pitch.

Onyango joined the Brazilians in 2011 from Mpumalanga Black Aces after winning three league titles with SuperSport United. Zwane recalled how the goalkeeper immediately changed the culture at Chloorkop. “He taught us young players that we must adapt to a winning mentality,” Zwane said. “Even today, he directs us and reminds the new players about our club culture.”

The 38-year-old has collected nine Premier Soccer League medals with Sundowns, adding to his previous three with SuperSport. This makes him the most successful player in the history of South African top-flight football. He was also named the best goalkeeper in Africa when Sundowns captured their maiden CAF Champions League trophy in 2016.

Currently, the Tshwane giants stand on the brink of further history. They are closing in on an eighth straight domestic championship, which would hand Onyango his 13th personal league medal. The team also faces AS FAR Rabat next month in a two-legged final as they seek to defend their continental crown. Although he now serves as backup to Ronwen Williams, Onyango’s influence in the dressing room continues to shape the club’s pursuit of silverware.
