Torino eye Comuzzo as Fiorentina defensive surplus grows
Torino have emerged as potential suitors for Fiorentina centre-back Pietro Comuzzo as the 21-year-old faces an uncertain future in Tuscany. According to transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Turin side hold genuine interest in the Italy international, though formal negotiations are yet to commence.
The defender’s pathway to regular first-team football has narrowed considerably following a busy recruitment drive from Fiorentina. The club have already secured two new centre-backs this summer, signing Radu Dragusin on loan from Tottenham Hotspur with a €19 million obligation to buy, and acquiring Viery from Grêmio for approximately €15 million including bonuses.
With Luca Ranieri and Marin Pongračić also remaining on the books, Comuzzo risks being squeezed out of the defensive rotation for the 2026-27 campaign. Despite his considerable experience for his age, the arrival of established competition threatens to restrict his playing time in Serie A.
Established pedigree at 21
Comuzzo has already accumulated significant senior exposure, registering 91 first-team appearances for Fiorentina, including 64 outings in Italy’s top flight. His development has attracted attention at international level, earning two senior caps for Italy under interim head coach Silvio Baldini during June’s fixtures.
The defender had previously been named in multiple full-strength squads by Luciano Spalletti from November 2024 onwards, underlining his standing within the national team setup despite his relative youth.
What happens next
While Torino’s interest is concrete, the situation remains in its preliminary stages. Di Marzio notes that no formal discussions have taken place between the clubs, and Fiorentina have not yet indicated a willingness to sell the academy graduate.
However, with the transfer window progressing and defensive reinforcements already secured, Fiorentina may sanction Comuzzo’s departure to ensure he continues his development with regular minutes. Torino, who are also seeking to strengthen their backline with two new centre-backs this summer, could offer an appealing domestic solution for the player.
The coming weeks will determine whether Torino convert their interest into a formal proposal, or whether Comuzzo chooses to fight for his place amid heightened competition. For a player with substantial top-flight experience already, a season spent largely on the periphery would represent a significant setback to his progression.
