England defender Trevoh Chalobah has provisionally agreed to join Inter Milan, though the Serie A champions must still negotiate a transfer fee with Chelsea.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the 26-year-old has given the “all-clear” to move to Cristian Chivu’s side. However, Inter have yet to satisfy Chelsea’s valuation, with the London club having already rejected a proposal worth €25 million for the centre-back.
Defensive targets moving elsewhere
The pursuit has gained urgency as Inter’s alternative options close. Manchester City’s Nathan Ake has joined Turkish side Fenerbahce for £7 million plus £1.5 million in add-ons, formally ending any interest from the Nerazzurri in the Netherlands international.
Similarly, Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic is heading to Juventus, while Lazio’s Mario Gila has agreed personal terms with AC Milan. These developments leave Chalobah as the primary remaining candidate to reinforce the backline ahead of the new campaign.
Chelsea stance and rival interest
Chelsea’s rejection of the €25 million bid suggests they value the academy graduate higher than Inter’s opening offer. While the West London club have demonstrated willingness to monetise homegrown talent this window, they are holding out for their preferred price.
Serie A newcomers Como have also monitored Chalobah’s situation, though reports indicate their immediate recruitment priorities lie elsewhere, leaving Inter as the frontrunners for his signature.
International commitments
Chalobah is currently with the England squad preparing for the World Cup Round of 16 encounter with Mexico. He is due to turn 27 on Sunday, potentially making this transfer a pivotal career move as he enters his peak years.
Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio faces pressure to structure a deal that meets Chelsea’s demands while fitting the club’s financial framework, with pre-season preparations approaching rapidly.
