1. FC Union Berlin have announced the permanent signing of centre-back Stanley Nsoki from TSG Hoffenheim. The defender joins the German capital club on a full-time basis after spending the 2025/26 season on loan.
Nsoki made 14 appearances across all competitions during his temporary spell, contributing to the squad despite facing significant fitness challenges early in the campaign. The permanent transfer signals the club’s satisfaction with his performances and his successful integration into the team’s defensive framework.
Overcoming early setbacks
The centre-back endured a frustrating start to his time in Berlin after sustaining an injury at the beginning of the 2025/26 season. The setback disrupted his initial adaptation period, yet he managed to overcome these physical challenges and establish himself within the first-team setup. His recovery and subsequent displays demonstrated the resilience and defensive qualities that ultimately convinced Union to secure his services on a long-term basis.
Horst Heldt, Union’s managing director for men’s professional football, highlighted the player’s rapid adaptation despite the difficult circumstances. “Despite a difficult start, Stanley integrated into…” he said. “…the team very quickly and showed how valuable he can be to our style of play.”
Heldt elaborated on the technical attributes that prompted the permanent deal, noting: “His versatility, defensive qualities and understanding of…” the game are an excellent fit for Union. The managing director emphasised the club’s pleasure at retaining the player, adding: “We’re delighted that he’ll be staying with…” us and strengthening our defence.
Emotional connection
Nsoki expressed his enthusiasm for the permanent switch, emphasising his emotional connection with the supporters and the role they played in his recovery. “I’m very happy to become a permanent part…” of this special club, he stated. The defender credited the supporters’ backing during his rehabilitation period.
“The support of the fans and the trust…” shown by everyone at the club helped enormously in returning from his injury, he explained. Nsoki confirmed that he feels at home at Union and wants to continue contributing to the team’s success together with his teammates.
The acquisition secures valuable defensive depth for Union Berlin as they continue their campaign. Nsoki’s versatility across the backline provides the coaching staff with additional tactical flexibility and rotation options, particularly valuable given the physical demands of the season schedule.
