Key Takeaways

  • Michael Carrick has confirmed that Carlos Casemiro will definitely leave Manchester United when the season ends in June.
  • The Brazilian midfielder scored his ninth Premier League goal of the campaign during United’s 2-1 victory against Brentford.
  • The Red Devils are close to securing Champions League football next season, needing just two more points to confirm qualification.

Michael Carrick has stated that Carlos Casemiro’s decision to exit Manchester United this summer cannot be changed. The interim boss spoke after the Brazilian found the net in United’s 2-1 triumph over Brentford.

Casemiro headed home after 11 minutes to register his ninth league strike of the term. Benjamin Sesko added a second goal just before the interval to ensure the hosts took all three points.

The midfielder revealed earlier this season that he would depart Old Trafford in June following four years with the club. Carrick insists this arrangement is settled.

“It is very clear – the decision is obvious for both parties,” the temporary manager explained. “It is also clear how much representing this club matters to him. The situation is transparent, which helps supporters understand everything.”

Casemiro has performed well throughout the campaign despite his impending move. Carrick praised the player’s commitment during difficult moments.

“He deserves credit because he has given his absolute best and produced some crucial moments for us,” Carrick added. “Overall, this is quite a positive way for things to proceed.”

Mathias Jensen struck a late effort from 20 yards for the Bees, but it merely reduced the deficit. The result leaves United in third position.

The Manchester side require two points from their remaining fixtures to guarantee a place in next season’s Champions League. However, Carrick wants his team to aim higher than just qualification.

“This week has been productive in terms of league results,” he said. “Securing Champions League football is important, but we should not treat it as a major celebration.”

“We want to finish as high as possible in the table and collect more points. Our season must not end once we achieve this target. We have placed ourselves in a strong position, but we still have work to complete.”

Brentford chief Keith Andrews accepted defeat but praised his team’s display. “I was very pleased with our overall performance,” he stated.

“United began stronger than us and looked dangerous from corner kicks. They took the lead early. After that, we settled down and handled the match and the opposition better. Our players showed real courage.”
