Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has grown tired of endless speculation regarding his future. The Argentine World Cup winner has been heavily linked with moves to both FC Barcelona and Arsenal FC in recent weeks.

Club president Enrique Cerezo has repeatedly insisted that Alvarez is not available for transfer. However, reports continue to claim that Barcelona view him as the perfect replacement for Robert Lewandowski. Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest in securing his signature.

The 26-year-old forward is currently under contract until 2030. To end any doubts about his commitment, Atletico intend to offer him a new deal that doubles his current salary.

Speaking to journalists before the Champions League clash with Arsenal, Alvarez explained his frustration with the constant stories.

“I try not to think about these reports too much,” he told Marca. “Every week there is something new. I do not want to waste my energy on this matter.”

He added that he avoids social media because it often spreads false information. He prefers to concentrate on helping his team during this crucial stage of the campaign.

“I cannot keep clarifying or denying things all the time. Social media creates a snowball of lies. I save my energy for the pitch and for helping my teammates achieve our goals.”

Alvarez also discussed the upcoming tie with Arsenal. He said the squad is determined to write their names in the club’s history books this season.

“We are having an excellent campaign. If we reach the final, we will have played every possible match. That is our target. We are working well together and we want to make history.”

Regarding the fixture schedule, Alvarez had no preference about playing the first leg at home. He noted that Atletico beat Barcelona 4-0 at home in the Copa del Rey, but also started away against Club Brugge successfully earlier in the competition.

“It depends how you see it. The key is to play two excellent matches. These ties are decided by small details. We have our fans behind us for the first game, and we want to take an advantage to London.”

The first leg kicks off on Wednesday at 21:00 CEST at the Metropolitano. The return match takes place in London next Tuesday.
