Eduardo Camavinga could miss this summer’s FIFA World Cup in North America. The Real Madrid midfielder has struggled to secure a regular place in the starting eleven since his transfer from Stade Rennais. His future at the Santiago Bernabéu looks uncertain following his dismissal against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League. That sending off contributed to Los Blancos’ exit from the competition.
According to reports from Téléfoot, France manager Didier Deschamps plans to select just five midfielders for the tournament across the USA, Canada and Mexico. At present, five players stand ahead of Camavinga in the queue for those spots. These include Aurélien Tchouaméni, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Adrien Rabiot, Manu Koné, and N’Golo Kanté.
The 21-year-old now faces a race against time to change Deschamps’ mind. He must deliver strong performances in the closing weeks of the season. Alternatively, he must hope the coach decides to take an extra midfielder beyond the current plan. Otherwise, he faces a summer without international football despite his clear ability.
