Bayern Munich have taken their first concrete step to secure the services of Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon. The Bundesliga giants have presented the England international with a five-year deal, according to reports from Sky Germany.

The 25-year-old winger has attracted strong interest from the German champions for several weeks. However, completing the transfer will prove difficult because Newcastle have set a massive asking price of €90 million for their key player.

Officials at Bayern remain hopeful they can strike a deal with Gordon’s representatives. Yet the Bavarian club will look at other options if the Premier League side maintains its high valuation. German newspaper Bild suggests that Bayern would prefer to pay around €70 million instead.

The situation has become more complex after FC Barcelona entered the chase. Spanish outlets Sport and RAC1 claim that the Catalan club’s sporting director, Deco, has started collecting detailed information about the former Everton youngster.

Like Bayern, Barcelona find the transfer fee problematic. The La Liga side cannot easily afford Newcastle’s demands, which creates a standoff in negotiations for the talented attacker.
