Albert Riera’s job at Eintracht Frankfurt is under serious threat. The Spanish coach joined the Bundesliga club only three months ago. He replaced Dino Toppmöller. Now, club bosses are thinking about sacking him.

The team has played badly in recent weeks. They have won just one of their last six games. This poor form has disappointed fans and club officials.

Riera has also made headlines for the wrong reasons. He has spoken to the media too much. Recently, he shouted at reporters. He called their stories “lies”. The reports said he had argued with striker Jonathan Burkardt.

German football legend Lothar Matthäus has criticised the coach. He gave an interview to Sky Germany. Matthäus believes Riera talks too much to the press.

“I do not want any coach to lose their job,” Matthäus said. “I have been sacked before. But Riera must take some blame. For months, everything at Frankfurt has been about the coach. This is because of things he has said.”

Matthäus compared Riera to Sandro Wagner. Wagner was the coach at FC Augsburg. He also spoke openly to the media. Augsburg sacked him in December. He had worked there for less than six months.

“Wagner and Riera must learn to stay away from the spotlight,” Matthäus explained. “They should focus on coaching their teams, not talking to journalists.”

This situation is difficult for Markus Krösche. He is the sporting director at Frankfurt. He chose to hire Riera.

Matthäus thinks Frankfurt should act quickly. He says they should admit they made a mistake. He compared it to Bayer Leverkusen. They fired Erik ten Hag early this season.

“Leverkusen hired Ten Hag. They soon knew it was the wrong decision,” Matthäus noted. “I do not think Riera has a future at Frankfurt. Too many bad things have already happened.”
