- The 24-year-old is unlikely to accept a role as second-choice goalkeeper.
- Luis Enrique must decide whether to restore him as first-choice or allow a transfer.
Lucas Chevalier could leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer. The French goalkeeper has spent just one year at the Parc des Princes following his big-money move from Lille OSC.
The 24-year-old arrived last summer for a fee of €55 million. Many fans expected him to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma and become the future first-choice for France. However, he has found life in the French capital difficult.
During the early months of the season, Chevalier showed poor form. His performances between the posts were not convincing. Because of this, manager Luis Enrique decided to make a change.
Since January, Matvey Safonov has taken over as the club’s main goalkeeper. The Russian has kept his place in the team because he has provided more stability and confidence at the back.
Now Chevalier faces an uncertain future. According to reports from L’Équipe, the young stopper does not want to spend next season on the bench. He refuses to accept a role as backup.
His departure depends on several factors. Enrique could decide to give Chevalier another chance as the number one. If the manager sticks with Safonov, PSG must decide on a fair price for the Frenchman. They might also consider sending him out on loan to gain more experience.
