RC Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangaré has secured the Marc-Vivien Foé award for the current season. The 23-year-old Mali international takes over from Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi, who lifted the trophy last year.

This prestigious accolade celebrates the best African talent playing in France’s top division. Media outlets RFI and France 24 present the award to remember the late Cameroon midfielder Marc-Vivien Foé.

Sangaré has enjoyed an outstanding first year in Ligue 1. He has played 28 matches for his club, finding the net three times and creating four goals for his teammates. His efforts have helped RC Lens secure what looks like a second-place finish in the league table.

The northern club still has a mathematical chance of winning the championship. However, their goal difference makes this outcome highly unlikely. Lens can still end the season with a trophy, as they prepare to meet OGC Nice in the Coupe de France final.

The young star saw off tough competition to win the individual prize. He finished ahead of AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara and Olympique Lyonnais defender Moussa Niakhaté in the voting.
