Chelsea Football Club have started discussions with Xabi Alonso about taking the manager’s job at Stamford Bridge. The West London side are searching for a permanent boss after they sacked Liam Rosenior last month.

Graham MacFarlane is currently in charge on a temporary basis. He took over after Rosenior left the club. This season has seen three different managers at the Bridge. Enzo Maresca also departed from his position earlier in the year.

Alonso, who previously coached Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, is now without a club. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea have already made contact with the Spanish coach. The Basque manager wants to return to England and will listen to the Blues’ proposal.

Earlier reports linked Alonso with a move to Liverpool. The Reds wanted him before they appointed Arne Slot. However, Slot will stay at Anfield next season. This means Alonso is now free to speak with other Premier League clubs.

Chelsea hope to choose their new manager before the World Cup begins. If Alonso accepts the offer, he will become the permanent replacement. The club are also considering other names. Andoni Iraola, who is leaving Bournemouth, is another strong candidate. Other options include Oliver Glasner, Marco Silva of Fulham, and Filipe Luis.
