Hakan Safi, a candidate in the upcoming Fenerbahçe presidential election, has travelled to Italy for discussions with AC Milan. The meeting focused on potential transfers between the two clubs.
According to reports in Turkey, Safi arrived at the Rossoneri’s headquarters on Sunday. He hopes that promising a big-name signing will help him win votes in the election. It is not yet certain that he will become the new president of the Istanbul club.
The Milan leadership team was present for the talks. Chief Executive Giorgio Furlani had called a staff meeting that included sporting director Igli Tare and special advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic. All three spoke with Safi during his visit.
The presidential hopeful also attended Milan’s Serie A clash with Atalanta on Sunday evening. He watched from the stands as the home side lost 3-2 at San Siro.
Turkish sources suggest several players were discussed. Christopher Nkunku is reportedly one name on Safi’s list. However, a move for Milan star Rafael Leao appears difficult. The Italian club value the Portugal winger at around €70 million. This fee would likely prove too expensive for Fenerbahçe.
