Kayole Starlets midfielder Salome Drailer produced a commanding display on the pitch to guide her side to safety, collecting the Player of the Match award on Mother’s Day which she immediately dedicated to her daughter.
The Kenyan Women’s Premier League clash proved intensely competitive as several clubs sat level on points in the relegation battle. Drailer explained that her team approached the fixture knowing only a victory would suffice.
“The match was challenging because of the immense pressure. Approximately four teams shared identical points totals, so our survival depended entirely on our effort. We understood this was a must-win clash. We refused to accept a draw or defeat. This mentality pushed us forward and lifted us clear of the danger zone,” she stated.
This result represents a significant shift for Kayole Starlets following a difficult campaign. Drailer emphasised that teamwork drove their success rather than individual brilliance.
“I feel delighted with my colleagues. Each player contributed fully and we maintained unity. We battled together as one family through positive and tough periods,” she commented.
Although she received personal praise, Drailer insisted the honour belonged to everyone.
“I must thank my team-mates as they enabled this award. Without their support, this would be impossible. I give this to my daughter, particularly on Mother’s Day,” she added.
With the season concluding in one round, Drailer encouraged fans to fill the stadium for the finale.
“To our supporters, please arrive in huge numbers for our last match. We need your backing and energy. We will bring the same attitude from this victory into the final game. We hope to win again,” she requested.
Kayole Starlets now approach their closing fixture with renewed confidence, thanks largely to Drailer’s leadership and determination during this critical period.
