- The player wants to leave Hertha despite the club’s wish to keep him
English champions Manchester City have entered the race to sign teenage midfielder Kennet Eichhorn from Hertha BSC. The 16-year-old has attracted attention from several top European clubs.
Earlier this week, German newspaper Bild claimed Borussia Dortmund were leading the chase for the young talent. However, fresh reports from Sky Germany suggest Manchester City have devised a clever strategy with Bayer Leverkusen.
Under this plan, City would purchase Eichhorn and send him straight to Leverkusen on loan. The two clubs have worked together before. This arrangement would allow the teenager to play regular Bundesliga football and gain European experience before moving to England.
The talented midfielder has a release clause set between €10 million and €12 million in his current contract. Despite this, competition remains strong. Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig have also shown interest in securing his services.
Hertha’s sporting director Benjamin Weber recently stated he hoped Eichhorn would stay at the club for one more season. However, sources indicate the player has already decided to depart the Berlin-based side.
