FC Barcelona have strongly rejected claims by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez that his team was robbed of seven league championships. The Catalan club confirmed they may take legal action against the accusations.

Rafa Yuste, who currently serves as Barcelona’s interim president, hit back after Perez spoke for over an hour on Tuesday. The Real Madrid chief attacked the Spanish media and claimed there was a campaign against his club. He also said referees had cost his team seven La Liga titles.

Yuste told MD that Perez’s words were pathetic and full of lies. He watched the press conference later and felt sad, not amused. He said a club president should not make such statements.

The Barcelona official believes Perez is trying to cover up poor results. Real Madrid have struggled in the league for two seasons while Barcelona have won back-to-back titles. Yuste pointed out that his team leads the table by 14 points this year.

Perez also mentioned the Negreira corruption case, which involves payments Barcelona made to a former referees’ official. Yuste called this a smokescreen to distract from Real Madrid’s failures. He said Barcelona won titles through their youth academy, La Masia, and smart signings.

Rafael Louzan, head of the Spanish Football Federation, refused to join the argument. He said the federation trusts the referees and wants the courts to finish the Negreira case quickly. He added that what helps Real Madrid helps Spanish football, but he will not take sides in the row.

The Negreira case is still in court. Real Madrid are part of the prosecution against Barcelona.

Yuste ended with a warning about Joan Laporta returning as president on July 1st. He promised Barcelona would keep fighting for success and protecting their club’s name.
