- Mainz want to sign Stefan Posch on a permanent deal
- The Austrian defender is currently on loan from Como
- His contract with the Serie A club runs until 2029
- Other clubs have also asked about his availability
FSV Mainz 05 have opened talks to keep Stefan Posch at the club beyond the summer. The Bundesliga side want to turn the defender’s loan move into a permanent transfer.
The 29-year-old Austrian joined Mainz in late January from Italian outfit Como 1907. Since then, he has played over 1,395 minutes in the centre of defence. His performances have helped the team keep three clean sheets during his time on the pitch.
Posch’s current loan agreement expires in June. At present, the deal does not include an option for Mainz to buy him outright. Club officials are now working to change this and secure his services long-term.
However, the German club face a difficult challenge. Como hold all the power in negotiations because Posch’s contract with them runs until 2029. The Serie A side could demand a high fee or refuse to sell entirely.
Mainz also face competition from rival teams. Several unnamed clubs have made enquiries about the centre-back. Additionally, Como may decide to keep Posch in their own squad for next season rather than allow him to leave.
