Reports from Absolut Fussball indicate that Borussia Mönchengladbach are close to securing the services of Japanese midfielder Zento Uno ahead of the summer window. The Bundesliga club appear to have moved ahead of their rivals in the race for the player.

The 22-year-old has earned two caps for Japan. He currently serves as captain of Shimizu S-Pulse in his homeland despite his young age.

If the deal goes through, Uno will become the Foals’ second recruit of the close season. The club has already signed David Herold from Karlsruhe SC.

Uno operates in a defensive midfield role. He may fill the gap left by Rocco Reitz, who is set to join RB Leipzig.

However, Rheinische Post claims that Borussia Dortmund also want the player. The Bundesliga rivals are monitoring the situation closely.

Meanwhile, Gladbach are also close to landing Hannover 96 captain Enzo Leopold. The Foals are busy strengthening their squad for next term.
