FC Bayern Munich have won the DFB-Pokal for the first time since 2020. They beat defending champions VfB Stuttgart 3-0 in the final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. England captain Harry Kane scored all three goals in the second half.
This was Kane’s first major final since joining the German giants. The victory also gave manager Vincent Kompany a domestic double in his second year at the club.
Stuttgart started the match with more energy. Striker Deniz Undav tested Bayern’s young goalkeeper Jonas Urbig with a header from a corner after just two minutes. Left wingback Maximilian Mittelstädt also came close twice, but he hit the side netting and then forced a save from Urbig.
Bayern took time to find their rhythm. Their first real chance came midway through the first half when Kane headed wide from a Michael Olise cross. Urbig then made another fine save to stop Chris Führich from giving Stuttgart the lead.
At the other end, Stuttgart’s goalkeeper Alexander Nübel faced his parent club. He only had to make one serious stop before the break, diving to save a low shot from Josip Stanisic.
The second half began with a short delay. Referee Sven Jablonski stopped play because fans let off flares and fireworks. When the action restarted, Bayern took control.
Joshua Kimmich took a clever short free-kick to Olise. The French winger crossed with his weaker right foot, and Kane rose to head home his eighth goal of this cup campaign. More pyrotechnics caused another interruption, and Stuttgart lost their momentum.
Bayern nearly scored again when Konrad Laimer missed an open goal after Nübel saved a shot from Luis Diaz. However, Kane killed the game ten minutes from time. He hit the post with one attempt, but nine seconds later he collected the ball, turned sharply, and fired a precise shot into the net.
There was still time for Kane to complete his hat-trick. After Angelo Stiller handled the ball inside the box, the striker stepped up and scored the penalty with confidence. This made him the first player to score ten goals in a single DFB-Pokal season this century.
The win marks Bayern’s 21st Pokal title. Stuttgart have now lost all three cup finals they have played against the record German champions. For Bayern, this trophy ends a drought dating back to their 2019/20 treble-winning campaign under Hansi Flick.
