Jose Mourinho is preparing to take charge at Real Madrid once Florentino Perez wins the upcoming presidential election at the Santiago Bernabeu. Sources suggest the club’s hierarchy will confirm the Portuguese manager’s appointment immediately after Perez secures another term in office.
However, the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has already started planning for next season. Unlike previous managers at the Spanish giants, Mourinho made it a strict condition of his return that he would have direct input on recruitment. According to reports from Diario AS, the club has now received an official document from the 63-year-old detailing his transfer priorities.
The paperwork does not name specific players, but instead highlights positions that require reinforcement. Mourinho believes the squad needs at least four new faces, though he would prefer six additions to mount a serious challenge for major honours. His main concerns lie in three key areas of the pitch.
In defence, the Special One wants to sign one or two full-backs plus an additional centre-back to provide more depth. The midfield requires the most urgent attention. Mourinho specifically wants one defensive-minded player to challenge Aurelien Tchouameni for his spot, plus a creative playmaker. He feels the current midfield lacks the imagination needed to unlock stubborn opposition defences.
The biggest obstacle could be the transfer budget. Los Blancos spent €160 million on four players last summer, which was unusually busy by their recent standards. While the club has invested heavily in stars like Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé in previous windows, funding another large overhaul may prove difficult without selling existing squad members first.
