Como manager Cesc Fabregas has issued a firm warning to Real Madrid. He insists that the Italian side want to keep young midfielder Nico Paz at the Stadio Sinigaglia.
Fabregas spoke to reporters during an open-top bus parade. The team were celebrating their surprise qualification for the Champions League. They finished inside the top four of Serie A this term.
The former Spain international confirmed he is not leaving the club. He held talks with the president and sporting director. The club is now preparing for its first European campaign in decades.
“We are building a strong mentality,” Fabregas told Sky Sport. “We know the Champions League will be tough. If you are not ready, you can concede many goals in those stadiums.”
Como achieved this success despite having only the eleventh-largest wage bill in the league. Fabregas praised the club’s rapid growth over the past two and a half years.
The coach highlighted Paz as key to their future plans. The 21-year-old Argentine has spent two seasons with Como. He was recently named the league’s best midfielder for the 2025-26 campaign.
Real Madrid hold a buyback clause for the player. They can re-sign him until June 2027. However, Fabregas hopes the midfielder rejects any return to Spain.
“He is very important for our growth,” Fabregas said. “We have developed together. We want him to stay with us.”
Inter Milan have also shown interest in Paz. Despite this, Fabregas believes the player will only leave Como if Real Madrid activate their clause.
