AC Milan has entered a period of major upheaval. The Italian giants have removed four key figures from their staff following a disappointing domestic campaign. The club failed to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
The Rossoneri announced the sackings of manager Max Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada, and chief executive Giorgio Furlani. The club released a single statement to confirm all four departures on the same day.
Meanwhile, club icon Paolo Maldini appears ready for a new challenge. The former defender has held discussions with Hakan Safi. Safi is currently running for the presidency at Turkish club Fenerbahce.
Maldini shared details of their meeting on social media. He described Safi as a passionate leader with deep football knowledge. He also called him a true friend. The pair met in Istanbul last week. They had previously held talks in Italy earlier this month.
The exact position Maldini might take at Fenerbahce remains unclear. This depends on whether Safi wins the upcoming election. However, sources suggest Maldini could bring former Milan coach Stefano Pioli with him to Turkey.
Maldini served as director of development at Milan between 2018 and 2019. He then became technical director, a role he held until the club dismissed him in June 2023.
