Italian media reports suggest that Argentine midfielder Nico Paz wishes to remain at Como for the upcoming campaign. This comes even though Real Madrid hold a buy-back option worth just €9 million – a figure well below his current market value.

The 21-year-old now faces a difficult choice between the two clubs. Como recently secured their first-ever Champions League spot, creating an attractive project for the player. However, Real Madrid – where Paz developed through the youth ranks – are pushing for his return to the Bernabeu.

The midfielder moved to Italy in August 2024 for only €6 million. The agreement included a 50 per cent sell-on clause for Los Blancos. Additionally, Real Madrid inserted several affordable buy-back options: €8 million in 2024, €9 million this year, and €10 million for 2027.

Como manager Cesc Fabregas has publicly stated his desire to retain the player. Paz recently collected the Serie A Midfielder of the Year award. According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the player shares this wish and wants to continue in Italy for at least one more season.

However, Tuesday’s reports indicate that both the Spanish giants and former manager Jose Mourinho remain eager to see Paz return to Madrid. Como officials are hoping that upcoming presidential elections in the Spanish capital may distract the club. Florentino Perez is currently campaigning for another term as president. The buy-back clause expires in under two weeks, giving Real Madrid limited time to complete the transfer.
