Real Madrid have fixed the date for their presidential election. Members will vote on Sunday, 7 June 2026. This is the first election at the club in 20 years.
The electoral board confirmed the date on Tuesday. Voting will take place at the Basketball Pavilion in Real Madrid City. The polls will be open from 9:00 in the morning until 8:00 at night without a break.
Florentino Perez has been president since 2009. He will compete against Enrique Riquelme. Riquelme’s candidacy became official at the weekend.
Perez decided to call the vote after the team failed to win major trophies in two straight seasons. Fans have protested during games. They have targeted Perez and players such as Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham.
Most observers expect Perez to win the election. He has led the club through one of its most successful periods.
If Perez keeps his job, he plans to appoint Jose Mourinho as the new manager. The club has already agreed terms with the Portuguese coach. However, his return to the Bernabeu will only happen after the vote. Mourinho last managed the club 13 years ago.
