Fortuna Düsseldorf have entered a painful new chapter after falling into Germany’s third division. The relegation has forced the Rhineland side to reduce their workforce significantly.
In a heartfelt message, the club explained that staff reductions were necessary across all departments. They stressed that the affected workers were not responsible for the team’s poor results on the pitch.
“We deeply appreciate your hard work and love for Fortuna,” the club stated. “You formed the backbone of our operations every single day. We hope you succeed in everything you do next.”
Samir Arabi has now stepped into the role of sporting director. He replaces Sven Mislintat, who recently left his position. Arabi knows the region well and previously witnessed similar troubles at Arminia Bielefeld during their 2011 crisis.
“This is tough because people’s lives are affected,” Arabi said. “I understand this pain. When we first spoke, I felt a strong need to help rebuild this club in my home region.”
The new director plans to meet with key figures at the club to understand the situation better. He refuses to make empty promises. Instead, he wants practical solutions to fix the problems.
“Fortuna Düsseldorf is a massive institution and will stay that way,” he stated. “We must set goals that are bold but possible. Leaving this league is essential, but we need proper funding to make it happen.”
Arabi believes the club belongs in higher divisions. He noted that the city and its facilities deserve better than third-tier football.
