- Several major European clubs had previously expressed interest in Iraola’s services
Liverpool FC are preparing to appoint Andoni Iraola as their new manager following the sudden departure of Arne Slot. The Merseyside club have identified the Spanish coach as their primary target to take charge at Anfield for the upcoming season.
Iraola recently confirmed he would leave Bournemouth after a successful spell with the Cherries. During his time on the south coast, he guided the club to European qualification for the first time in their history. This achievement has placed him high on the wish list of several top European sides.
Multiple reports suggest the 42-year-old is now in advanced discussions with Liverpool. Journalist Ben Jacobs claims Iraola is the frontrunner for the role, while Matteo Moretto states the Reds are actively pursuing him. Santi Aouna also reports that the former Rayo Vallecano boss sits at the top of the club’s shortlist.
Other teams had shown strong interest in securing Iraola’s signature. Chelsea held initial talks before turning to Xabi Alonso, while Crystal Palace and AC Milan also explored the possibility of hiring him. However, the opportunity to manage Liverpool appears to be the most appealing option for the Basque coach, who is known for being selective about his projects.
