Portuguese midfielder Fábio Vieira has set his heart on remaining at Hamburger SV beyond the current campaign. The 24-year-old playmaker, who spent the season on loan with the German side, now wishes to make his stay at the Volksparkstadion permanent.
However, the North London outfit must first agree to a transfer fee with the 2. Bundesliga club. Arsenal initially included a €22 million purchase clause in the loan arrangement. This option has since expired without HSV activating it.
Reports suggest the Gunners have lowered their expectations. They would now accept a package worth between €10 million and €15 million. Despite this reduction, Hamburg remain reluctant to meet these demands.
The German club will only sanction a deal for a single-figure million sum. They must weigh this investment carefully, given that the former Porto talent has just twelve months remaining on his Emirates Stadium contract.
Should the two clubs find common ground, Vieira stands ready to sign a four-year agreement with the Hanseatic club. The attacking midfielder is eager to secure his long-term future in Germany.
