Conflicting news has emerged about the fitness of Como playmaker Nico Paz. The young Argentina international faces a battle to prove his fitness ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The 20-year-old enjoyed an excellent season in Italy. He scored 13 goals and created eight more in 40 matches for the Lariani. His form earned him a place in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
However, Paz joined the national team camp carrying a knock. He did not play in Como’s last two league games because of a problem with his left knee. Spanish outlet Diario AS reports that the injury is serious. They claim the knee has not healed properly, which could end his World Cup hopes.
Yet Argentine station TyC Sports gives a more positive view. They say the mood inside the Seleccion camp is upbeat. Medical staff are confident the former Real Madrid trainee will be ready for the opening match.
The Albiceleste are currently based in Kansas. They will face Algeria in their first warm-up game on 16 June. At present, Scaloni has not called up any replacement players. This suggests the coach expects Paz to recover soon.
