Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, a minority shareholder at Como, has praised Cesc Fabregas for his astute player recruitment and management following the Italian club’s impressive 4-1 victory over Manchester United in the Champions League Round 3. The win, which saw Nico Paz score two goals and provide an assist, marked a significant moment for Como and highlighted Fabregas’s growing influence.
Fabregas’s Impact on Player Recruitment
Henry specifically commended Fabregas for his ability to identify and sign players who were not widely known, transforming them into a cohesive and competitive team. Speaking after the match, Henry noted the success of players like Jacobo Ramon, Yan Couto, and Nico Paz, stating that few would have recognised their potential a few years ago when Como was in Serie B.
“To be able to go and get players that not a lot of people knew, to make a team out of it. Look at where they are, where we are,” Henry remarked, attributing Como’s current standing and the development of these players directly to Fabregas’s vision and leadership. He emphasised Fabregas’s role in shaping the entire Como project, from player acquisition to on-field performance.
Como’s European Ascent
Como’s journey to the Champions League is a testament to their rapid progress under Fabregas. The club finished fourth in Serie A last season, securing their first-ever qualification for Europe’s premier club competition. Their recent 4-1 triumph against Manchester United is considered one of the biggest results in the club’s history, further cementing their presence on the European stage.
With six points from three Champions League matches so far this season, Como is currently the best-placed Italian team in the league phase, demonstrating their competitive edge against established European giants. This strong start underscores the effectiveness of Fabregas’s strategy and the team’s collective performance.
A Clear Tactical Identity
Henry also highlighted the clear tactical identity Fabregas has instilled in the Como squad. He observed that the team consistently aims to dominate possession and apply pressure, showcasing a well-defined approach both with and without the ball. This tactical clarity ensures that the team’s objectives are evident in every game, regardless of the outcome.
The former Arsenal teammate of Fabregas concluded by reiterating the profound impact of the Spanish manager. Henry’s comments underscore the belief that Fabregas has not only built a successful team but has also fostered a strong connection with the community, contributing to Como’s remarkable rise in Italian and European football.
