Real Madrid will hold presidential elections this Sunday. Enrique Riquelme hopes to win the vote and take control of the club. He faces current president Florentino Perez.
Riquelme has made some big promises to the fans. He says he will appoint Jurgen Klopp as the new head coach. The German manager left Liverpool in 2024. He now works for the Red Bull sporting group.
The candidate also plans to sign two Manchester City players. He wants striker Erling Haaland and midfielder Rodri to move to the Bernabeu. Riquelme showed a Real Madrid shirt with Haaland’s name on Spanish television.
Manchester City are not happy with these comments. They say Haaland will stay at the Etihad Stadium. His contract runs until 2034. The Premier League club may take legal action over the use of their player’s image.
Perez has different plans for the team. He wants to bring Jose Mourinho back as manager. Mourinho currently coaches Benfica in Portugal. Perez also wants to buy defenders Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate. He will make a €150 million offer for Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise.
Riquelme says club legend Raul will become sporting director. Raul previously coached the B team. He recommends Klopp for the manager’s job.
Klopp said he was finished with coaching last year. However, he has changed his mind. He says he is open to returning to the dugout. He is only 57 years old and has not retired.
The election takes place on Sunday. The winner will lead the club during the next term.
