Nairobi, Kenya – Kenya national team coaches are keeping a close eye on Power Dynamos striker Moses Shumah after his excellent season in the Zambian Premier League.

Assistant coach Vasili Masounakis says the tall forward will get an opportunity to play for the Harambee Stars. However, he explains that the right moment has not arrived yet.

Shumah joined Power Dynamos just before last year’s Africa Nations Championships (CHAN). Masounakis says the player was still getting used to his new club when Kenya played their qualifying matches. At that time, coach Benni McCarthy could pick from experienced forwards like captain Michael Olunga and Jonah Ayunga.

The 2023-24 season was outstanding for the Kenyan hitman. He scored 21 goals in the league to help Power Dynamos win the title. He added three more in the CAF Champions League, taking his total to 24 goals. This performance won him the Golden Boot and the club’s Player of the Season award.

Despite his great form, Shumah did not play in recent friendly matches against Lesotho. The team has used younger strikers instead, including Ryan Ogam from Austria and Lawrence Okoth from Finland.

Off the pitch, reports link Shumah with a move to AmaZulu in South Africa. Masounakis thinks any club that signs him will get a very good player. He advises Shumah to stay humble and keep working hard.

The national team is preparing for an important period. Kenya will host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations together with Uganda and Tanzania. Masounakis knows there will be pressure to perform well at home.

He remembers the amazing support during the CHAN tournament. He says playing in front of 60,000 or 70,000 Kenyan fans gives the players extra energy and makes them proud.

McCarthy and his coaches have tried to change how the team plays. Masounakis believes these changes are working and that football fans in Kenya are now very excited about the national team.

As the coaches pick their next squad, supporters will watch to see if Shumah finally gets his chance. His goal-scoring record suggests he could help solve the team’s need for a reliable striker.
